We are an in-office company, and our expectation is that full-time employees primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. However, we also recognize the importance of flexibility and trust our employees to manage their schedules responsibly. This may include occasional remote work, starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office, or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments. This in-office expectation does not apply to contractor positions About the role We’re looking for a Systems Engineer with strong robotics and software skills to join the team building Applied Intuition’s autonomous trucking system. You’ll own requirements, architecture and verification for parts of the system, from what the customer needs down to the pass/fail checks that run in simulation and on the vehicle. You’ll work closely with software, hardware, safety and test engineers, and with OEM partners, to take an L4 product into production. At Applied Intuition, you will: - Turn customer, operational and regulatory needs into system, subsystem and component requirements, and keep them in Polarion as the single source of truth - Define subsystems: their functions, inputs and outputs, interfaces and P-diagrams. Get them reviewed and approved by software and hardware leads - Help write the system architecture as code (SysML v2) through a PR-based workflow, with clear owners for each component. Keep Cameo models in sync where certification and customer deliverables require them - Write diagnostic and fault-management requirements, covering fault detection thresholds, fault-tolerant time intervals (FTTI), degradation strategy and minimal-risk maneuvers - Run safety analyses such as STPA. Turn unsafe control actions into requirements, test cases and safety performance indicators - Own the pass/fail criteria (observers and metrics) that turn requirements into machine-readable checks for simulation and in-vehicle testing. Make sure they are precise enough to trust - Keep traceability end to end, from capability to requirement, test case, scenario, observer and result. When something escapes testing, find which layer missed it and close the gap - Produce ASPICE work products and evidence (SYS.1–SYS.5, plus support for SWE.1/5/6) and get the team ready for assessments - Represent systems engineering to OEM partners and regulators, including requirement reviews, validation plans and homologation deliverables - Use and build AI-assisted tools (LLM agents, MCP integrations, scripts) to automate traceability, triage and requirement authoring We’re looking for someone who has: - 2+ years of systems engineering experience covering requirements, functional decomposition and allocation, interface definition, and verification and validation - Experience with robotics, autonomous vehicles or ADAS software systems - Hands-on experience with a requirements tool (Polarion, DOORS, Jama) and with MBSE / SysML (Cameo or SysML v2) - Comfort working in a codebase: Git, pull requests, Python, YAML - Experience with at least one safety analysis method (STPA, FMEA, FTA, HARA) - Clear written communication, and the ability to drive alignment across engineering teams and with external customers Nice to have: - Experience with ASPICE, ISO 26262 or ISO 21448 (SOTIF) - Experience defining metrics or pass/fail criteria for simulation-based verification - Experience with commercial vehicles or trucking - Experience building LLM-based tools or agents for engineering workflows - Japanese language skills Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles. Applied Intuition is an equal opportunity employer and federal contractor or subcontractor.
