Make a difference where it starts: in our schools At United Way of Greater Knoxville, we believe strong schools build strong neighborhoods. Our Community Schools strategy brings schools, families, and community partners together so every student has what they need to learn and thrive. As a Community School Site Coordinator, you’ll be the connector at the heart of your school. You’ll work side by side with principals, teachers, families, and local organizations to identify what students need academically, socially, and emotionally, and then bring the right resources through the door. Our work is grounded in the Four Pillar model: shared leadership, active family and community engagement, integrated support systems, and expanded learning opportunities. If you love building relationships, solving problems creatively, and seeing your work change lives up close, we’d love to meet you. What you’ll do - Build the plan. Assess your school community’s strengths, needs, and opportunities to create an annual site plan that aligns with school goals and avoids duplicated effort. - Bring people together. Convene and facilitate a site steering committee of families, community members, and school staff to set priorities and guide the work. - Grow partnerships. Cultivate relationships with local organizations that expand access to services and opportunities for students and families. - Use data to drive impact. Track and evaluate strategies, adjust what isn’t working, and report progress to school leadership and partners. - Be part of the school. Serve as an integrated member of the school, join relevant committees, and stay in close communication with school leadership. - Engage the community. Coordinate events, share information, and create a welcoming environment where family and community voices shape school improvement. - Steward resources. Manage your site’s budget responsibly and help identify new funding to sustain Community Schools initiatives. What you bring - Associate’s degree in social work, human services, business, or a related field - At least 3 years of relevant work experience - A gift for building trust across cultures, backgrounds, and organizational levels - Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to adapt your message for different audiences - Comfort using data and reports to make decisions - Excellent organization and the ability to juggle priorities in a fast-paced environment - Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint) and openness to new tools - Reliable transportation for occasional local and regional travel Bonus points - Bachelor’s or master’s degree - Experience in education, social services, mental health, juvenile justice, or a related field - Experience working in communities with similar strengths and needs - Multilingual or multicultural experience, especially with Spanish-speaking communities - Deep knowledge of the Greater Knoxville community and a drive to remove upstream barriers Start your journey here: The United Way of Greater Knoxville (UWGK) is part of a global organization that directly impacts our local communities. We foster a collaborative culture where every team member feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute. Our work is rooted in making a meaningful impact, changing lives, and embracing our community's strengths. YOU are essential to making our mission a reality. Join a team of great people, collaborate on meaningful work, and serve the communities you call home while you do it. To model equitable hiring practices, UWGK strives to provide a reasonable compensation range for this role. This range is determined by factors such as skill set level, experience, training, licensure, and certifications. To support merit-based performance, UWGK typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the pay range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $48,000- $58,000/year. As a Thriving United Way, we are broadening our scope to include system-level work in Community Schools, Early Education, Economic Mobility, and Health Communities. We will continue to act as a nonprofit funder and supporter, but we will also advocate more broadly to create lasting, systemic change in our community.
