Founding AI Agent Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE Join an early-stage healthtech team building conversational AI to help recruit and support participants in clinical trials. You will own the development of patient-facing agents, with a focus on making them reliable, safe, and effective in a regulated environment. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Build and orchestrate AI agents that coordinate participant recruitment across multiple clinical trials. - Analyze production conversations, identify failure scenarios, and turn them into evaluations that improve the agent harness. - Integrate health profile data sources to help agents contact and qualify potential participants at relevant times. - Develop consistent, personalized agent experiences across voice, SMS, and email. - Evaluate emerging agent tools and research, incorporating useful advances into the software platform. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - 0 to 4 years of experience in software engineering, agent engineering, or applied AI. - Demonstrated experience building conversational agents and agent harnesses for real users at scale, beyond prototypes or internal tools. - Experience with production tracing and evaluation infrastructure for AI agents. - Applied LLM experience and familiarity with agent orchestration, voice or messaging systems, or related technologies. - Strong software engineering fundamentals, including an undergraduate degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field. - Self-directed, hardworking, and able to make progress through ambiguous technical challenges. - Healthtech or life sciences experience, or a strong interest in applying AI to healthcare, is valuable. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Base salary: $150,000 to $220,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available. LOCATION On-site in California, United States.
