Senior Solutions Engineer

Do you enjoy getting to the bottom of what a client needs and turning it into a plan a team can build? Are you the person clients and developers both trust to say what Shopify can and can’t do? We’re looking for a Senior Solutions Engineer to lead discovery on our largest Shopify Plus builds. You’ll run workshops with clients, design solutions that fit their goals and budget, and hand a clear plan to the design and engineering teams who deliver it. You’ll also support sales on new projects and help our Growth Accelerator team plan what comes after launch. We work with ambitious brands across the UK, Europe, the US and APAC. We’re known for retail, subscription, internationalisation and bespoke builds that break new ground with what Shopify can do. What you’ll do - Lead discovery on large Shopify Plus builds, running workshops to gather requirements and define scope - Be the client’s main point of contact during discovery and present the final discovery playback - Turn requirements into technical specifications, architecture and data flow diagrams with the engineering team - Spot where Shopify won’t meet a requirement and propose workarounds or third-party integrations - Agree an MVP with the client that fits their goals and budget - Own the discovery budget, estimate build and future phases, and raise risks early - Hand over to design and engineering with full documentation and a formal handover meeting, then stay involved through delivery - Support the Go To Market team with scoping, pitches and presentations - Work with our Growth Accelerator team to plan future phases and retained work - Keep up with Shopify releases and share what you learn What you’ll bring - 4+ years in solutions engineering, solution architecture or technical consultancy for ecommerce - Deep knowledge of Shopify Plus, its apps and APIs, and enough understanding of front end, middleware and back end to design integrations with ERPs, PIMs and other third-party systems - A track record of leading discovery and presenting solutions to senior client stakeholders How you work - Curious; you ask the questions that get to what the client needs - Commercial; you design for the client’s goals and budget, and you’re comfortable recommending what to leave for phase 2 - Clear communicator; in writing and in person, whether you’re talking to a CEO or a developer - Kind and warm; clients and teams enjoy working with you, especially when things are under pressure - Pragmatic; you know Shopify’s limits and find sensible ways around them - Owner; your discoveries are yours and you see them through to launch - Diligent; your documentation is clear, complete and kept up to date - Ambitious; you want to lead, and you’re already helping others get better Nice to have - Shopify certifications - Experience with headless builds or other ecommerce platforms - Experience with UX research, user journeys and personas What you’ll get - £50k - £60k, depending on experience - 30 days holiday including bank holidays, plus one extra day for each full year of service (up to 5) - Flexible working hours - Fully remote in the UK, or our Exeter office - A development plan agreed with your line manager, with regular 1:1s - 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme - MacBook Pro or your choice of kit - Occasional travel to client meetings and conferences - Regular team socials No recruiters please
