Über die Stelle
We are a global team of innovators and pioneers dedicated to shaping the future of observability. At New Relic, we build an intelligent platform that empowers companies to thrive in an AI-first world by giving them unparalleled insight into their complex systems. As we continue to expand our global footprint, we're looking for passionate people to join our mission. If you're ready to help the world's best companies optimize their digital applications, we invite you to explore a career with us!
Your opportunity:
At New Relic, we provide our customers real-time insights so they can innovate faster. Our software delivers observability tools across heterogeneous technologies and distributed systems, enabling engineering teams to identify, understand, and tackle issues, analyze performance, and get the most out of their software and infrastructure.
You will be part of the Infra+ Platform & Synthetics team, which owns critical backend platforms including Scheduler, Serverless, and Synthetics. Operating at massive scale, our modern stack leverages Java, Node.js, Go, Kubernetes, Kafka, and GraphQL, paired with React on the frontend. As a Backend-Focused Full Stack Engineer, your primary mission will be architecting resilient, high-throughput microservices and data pipelines, while building clean, intuitive web interfaces when full-stack delivery is required.
This high-impact engineering position offers the opportunity to own distributed backend systems processing massive telemetry streams alongside companion management interfaces. We are looking for a motivated engineer ready to tackle complex scalability challenges. We look forward to talking with you!
What you'll do:
- Architect, implement, test, and scale resilient microservices and distributed backend systems using Java, Node.js, or Go.
- Design robust data models, efficient schemas, and high-performance APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) capable of handling high-concurrency workloads.
- Implement asynchronous messaging, distributed caching, and stream-processing patterns (e.g., Kafka) to process high-volume telemetry and synthetic execution data.
- Own the full lifecycle of your services—from writing clean, tested code to setting up CI/CD pipelines, containerizing applications, and deploying to Kubernetes-managed cloud infrastructure.
- Create automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and telemetry instrumentation to ensure services are fault-tolerant, observable, and performant.
- Work directly within a multidisciplinary team in an agile environment with an operational ownership mindset (you build it, you run it, you monitor it).
This role requires:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 3–4 years of professional software engineering experience, demonstrating strong backend engineering depth, practical frontend competency, and foundational DevOps capabilities.
- Backend Expertise: Strong hands-on experience designing, building, and operating production microservices and APIs using modern languages such as Java, Node.js, or Go.
- Data & Storage: Solid understanding of database design, query optimization, and trade-offs across relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL/document datastores.
- Frontend Competence: Practical ability to build, modify, and consume APIs within modern web applications using React, TypeScript, and HTML5/CSS3.
- DevOps & Cloud: Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker), CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar), and foundational cloud architecture (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Core Fundamentals: Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, concurrency, object-oriented/functional design) and a disciplined approach to automated testing.
- Collaboration: Excellent technical communication skills, with the ability to participate in architectural reviews and partner effectively across cross-functional engineering teams.
Bonus points if you have
- Hands-on experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Helm) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ), or stream-processing engines.
- Experience with distributed caching strategies (Redis, Memcached) and low-latency API optimization.
- Familiarity with distributed tracing, metrics collection, alerting platforms, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
- Experience writing end-to-end integration and performance tests for backend and frontend services.
