Über die Stelle

Storable is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer to provide technical leadership across all products in our Marine and RV & Camping Divisions (Storable Marine and Newbook) and help build the software that powers the day-to-day operations of marinas, boatyards, yacht clubs, boat clubs, harbors, dry-stack facilities, service yards, rental fleets, RV parks, campgrounds, holiday parks, RV resorts, and other outdoor hospitality businesses. Our Marine platform, including Molo (marina, boat storage, and service/yard management) and Rentals (boat rental fleet and boat-club management), and our RV & Camping platform (Newbook), support the workflows operators rely on to manage slips and storage, sites and accommodations, reservations and online bookings, rentals, guest management, point of sale, payments and billing, customer, vessel, and booking records, digital waivers, contracts and agreements, service operations, housekeeping and maintenance operations, channel and OTA integrations, reporting, and other industry-specific needs. We are looking for an AI-native technical leader who multiplies the output of every team around them: someone who runs agentic development workflows with tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor every day, has personally shipped LLM-powered features to production, and builds the tooling and practices that let a lean organization ship like a much larger one, without compromising on engineering judgment. About the Role As a Staff Software Development Engineer in Storable’s Marine and RV & Camping Divisions, you will provide technical leadership across the products within your assigned division, spanning product and team boundaries. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. You will define architecture and engineering standards, lead the most complex technical initiatives, partner with Software Development Managers on execution and with Product on priorities, and raise the capability of other engineers through mentorship, design reviews, and reusable solutions. The role is full stack in both senses. You will work hands-on in both backend engineering with Node.js, PHP and/or .NET, SQL, and REST APIs, and frontend engineering with React and JavaScript/TypeScript. You will also own the full lifecycle of what you and your peers build, from technical design through automated testing, deployment, observability, and incident response. What Ownership Means in This Role There are no dedicated QE, DevOps, SRE, or Architect roles on our teams. Engineers own the full lifecycle of their software, and as a Staff Software Development Engineer you set the standards, patterns, and automation that make that model work across the teams within your assigned division. Collaboration with shared platform teams is welcome where they exist, but ownership of outcomes is never delegated. You own architecture and technical design across your division, including system boundaries, data and API contracts, and the decision records teams rely on. You own quality strategy, including test architecture, automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, regression coverage, and the release confidence that lets teams ship without a separate QE function. You own deployment and delivery, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, environment management, feature flags, and safe rollout and rollback patterns. You own observability and reliability, including logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, SLOs, on-call practices, incident response, and blameless postmortems. You own security and performance, including secure coding standards, dependency and secrets hygiene, access controls, load and performance testing, and cost-aware scaling. You are accountable for how your systems behave in production, not just for code that merges. What You’ll Do Lead complex technical initiatives across Marine or RV & Camping products, working hands-on across backend systems, React frontends, integrations, and infrastructure from architecture through production. Own and evolve the architecture across the products within your division by defining system boundaries, API and data contracts, and integration patterns, and by documenting tradeoffs so teams make consistent decisions. Establish and drive adoption of engineering standards for backend and React development, automated testing, code review, security, observability, and production deployment. Design and build shared platform capabilities, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code modules, test harnesses, and developer tooling that let every team deliver safely and quickly. Define measurable targets for reliability, performance, scalability, and operating cost, address recurring failure modes, and validate improvements in production. Lead investigation of complex production incidents that cross product or team boundaries, identify systemic causes, and drive durable fixes while building other engineers’ debugging and on-call skills. Shape and execute a technical roadmap across the division, prioritizing technical debt, incremental modernization, and migrations by customer impact, reliability, cost, and delivery needs, with controlled production rollouts. Set the division’s AI-engineering practice by designing agentic and multi-agent workflows, shared prompts and context, guardrails, and internal AI tooling that teams adopt and measurably benefit from. Architect, build, and evaluate LLM-powered product features, including eval suites, quality and safety metrics, cost and latency budgets, and production monitoring. Lead technical design discussions and write clear design documents, helping teams resolve disagreements and explaining architecture, risks, and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Partner with Product, Software Development Managers, designers, and support teams to turn business and customer needs into technical plans. Mentor engineers, including Senior Software Development Engineers and technical leads, through pairing, design and code reviews, and hands-on coaching in AI-assisted development, influencing decisions through expertise rather than authority. What We’re Looking For 10+ years of software engineering experience, including designing, building, testing, deploying, and operating production systems. Required: hands-on production experience in both backend development with Node.js, PHP and/or .NET, SQL, and REST APIs, and frontend development with React and JavaScript/TypeScript. Required: thorough hands-on React experience in production, including component architecture, hooks, state management, API integration, and automated frontend testing. Required: hands-on experience across the full software delivery lifecycle, including technical design, automated unit and integration testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, production deployment, monitoring, and on-call incident response. Required: experience personally building and shipping at least one LLM-powered feature to real users in production, with the ability to explain your technical contribution, how the feature was evaluated, what failed, and how it improved. Experience using AI coding tools alone does not meet this requirement. Required: concrete, measurable evidence that AI-driven workflows you built or led multiplied output for you or your team, such as cycle-time reductions, expanded test coverage, automated toil, or initiatives delivered that would not otherwise have been feasible. A track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple products or teams and taking responsibility for architecture, implementation, adoption, and measurable production outcomes. Demonstrated ability to establish architecture and engineering standards across teams, align stakeholders on tradeoffs, and influence decisions without direct authority. Deep practical experience with system boundaries, API and data contracts, performance, scalability, security, and reliability across production systems. The ability to break down ambiguous technical problems into clear, executable plans and to explain decisions through design documents, diagrams, tradeoff analysis, and async updates. Demonstrated success mentoring Senior Software Development Engineers and improving engineering practices across teams. How We Expect Engineers to Use AI AI should be central to how you work, not an occasional assist, and at the Staff level you are responsible for raising the AI practice of every team around you. You should be able to point to specific ways you have used AI to: Run agentic development workflows with tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor to plan, implement, test, and refactor changes across large codebases. Orchestrate multiple agents or parallel AI workstreams on well-scoped tasks, with clear specifications, review checkpoints, and integration back into a coherent system. Explore implementation options, pressure-test architectural decisions, and draft design documents and migration plans. Generate and strengthen tests, find regression gaps, debug unfamiliar code paths, and refactor legacy code safely. Build internal tools, automation, and reusable agent workflows that eliminate repetitive engineering work across teams. Design evals and quality gates for LLM-powered features and for AI-assisted engineering output. Review AI-generated work critically for correctness, security, maintainability, performance, and product fit before it ships. Teach other engineers effective AI practices, including context management, prompting, agent configuration, and AI-assisted code review. We value engineers who know exactly when AI can accelerate the work and when careful human judgment is required, and who measure the difference rather than assume it. Technical Experience Backend development experience, thorough React experience, and hands-on ownership from architecture through automated testing, deployment, and production operations are required. We welcome depth in the other technologies listed below, together with the ability to learn quickly and use AI effectively. Primary technologies and tools may include: Node.js, PHP and/or .NET for backend services and application logic. MySQL, Postgres and/or SQL Server for relational data modeling, query design, and performance tuning. REST APIs, including API design, channel, OTA, and third-party integrations. React, with thorough production experience required. TypeScript and JavaScript across frontend and backend code. Testing frameworks for unit, integration, end-to-end, and regression testing. CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tooling. Observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident-management tooling. AI-assisted and agentic development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar. Nice to Have Experience modernizing legacy systems or incrementally refactoring older codebases. Experience working on SaaS products that serve industry-specific operational workflows. Experience with point of sale, reservations, bookings, payments, customer management, channel management, or marketplace-style systems. Experience building internal AI-enabled tools, agent workflows, or developer platforms for engineering teams. Experience defining SLOs, on-call programs, or incident management practices in an organization without a dedicated SRE function. Education A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is helpful, but equivalent professional experience is equally valued. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a Staff-level individual contributor with deep full-stack engineering experience, thorough React expertise, demonstrated delivery of LLM-powered features, and a track record of improving systems and engineering practices across multiple products. You reason clearly through systems, weigh tradeoffs, and own what you ship all the way through testing, deployment, and production operations. You use AI as a force multiplier for yourself and the teams around you, and you hold its output to the same standard as your own. You bring judgment, curiosity, technical depth, and modern execution speed, and you can help Storable Marine and RV & Camping build reliable software across their portfolios while raising engineering standards and developing other engineers.
