Project Description We are engineering the next generation of connected intelligent fitness hardware. The device combines a high-performance interactive display, real-time digital weight resistance powered by advanced motor control, and personalized AI coaching into a sleek, wall-mounted kiosk system. At the core of this experience is a custom Android/AOSP platform running on dedicated embedded hardware (Qualcomm platform). The system must operate with extreme reliability: our software directly interfaces with internal microcontrollers, sensors, and safety-critical motor drivers over low-latency serial buses while driving a responsive UI. We are looking for an Android Open Source (AOSP) Engineer who bridges the gap between low-level Linux/kernel touchpoints, system-level Android middleware, and high-performance Kotlin services to own the core platform architecture. What You Need For This Position - Languages. Kotlin (Coroutines, Flow), Java, and C/C++ via the NDK for binary protocols and state machines. - Hardware interfaces from userspace. Serial (termios, TTY, USB-CDC/ACM), GPIO/sysfs, uevents and wakelocks, and tracing data loss between kernel and app. - AOSP on real hardware: building, flashing and maintaining custom AOSP/vendor trees on physical devices, Qualcomm preferred: lunch, m, Android.bp/.mk, board configs, PRODUCT_PACKAGES, OTA generation. - Privileged apps and system services. Platform-signed APKs, priv-app and privapp-permissions allowlists, sharedUserId, persistent services that start before the launcher, Doze and App Standby exemptions. - SELinux. Writing and debugging .te policies, file_contexts and ueventd.rc rules for custom /dev/tty* nodes. - Binder and AIDL. Stable AIDL including its versioning rules; HIDL for legacy vendor HALs. - English, B2 or higher. You will discuss designs with the client’s engineers and write documentation in English. - Solid experience with Git, GitHub, and Jira. - Ability to create clear, maintainable technical specifications and code documentation (Doxygen, Wiki, Markdown). Nice to Have - Familiarity with Qualcomm trust architectures (QSEE / TrustZone). - Hands-on experience with hardware/firmware automated test tooling in Python (pytest, pyserial). - Experience working on connected fitness equipment, robotics, or medical devices featuring safety-relevant motor controls and sensor loops.
