Lead Software Engineer, Platform

ABOUT THE ROLE Join a platform engineering team at an AI/ML company building document processing systems. You will strengthen the infrastructure behind customer workloads, helping ensure jobs run reliably and efficiently as the platform scales. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Own and improve the platform that runs document processing jobs, focusing on speed, reliability, and cost efficiency. - Partner with machine learning engineers to serve in-house models efficiently and integrate them into production pipelines. - Build and maintain databases, task orchestration, workload scheduling, and cloud deployments. - Address latency, reliability, and scaling challenges across distributed systems. - Participate in on-call rotations and take end-to-end responsibility for platform health. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - At least 5 years of platform or backend engineering experience, including work on distributed systems. - Proficiency with Python, or deep expertise in Go or Rust and willingness to work with Python. - Experience building and scaling core infrastructure, task orchestration, and reliable platforms. - Application-level engineering experience in addition to infrastructure work, and experience with on-call responsibilities. - Experience serving models and optimizing cloud infrastructure is valuable. - Background in a startup or evidence of increasing technical scope and responsibility. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Base salary: $220,000 to $320,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is available. LOCATION On-site in San Francisco, California, United States.
