Senior Bankruptcy Attorney

ABOUT THE ROLE A boutique law firm is seeking a senior attorney to lead and grow its bankruptcy and restructuring practice. The role combines an established portable practice with work for investment funds and other firm clients on distressed businesses and debt-side matters. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Lead the bankruptcy and restructuring practice and help develop its client base. - Advise investment funds on troubled portfolio companies, including debt-side restructurings and workouts. - Handle in-court bankruptcy matters and out-of-court restructurings. - Contribute approximately 300 to 400 hours annually to firm-generated bankruptcy work alongside your portable practice. - Work with firm colleagues on existing client matters and mentor a junior associate. - Build and manage client relationships and grow your practice on the firm's platform. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - Typically 10 to 25 years of experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, and debtor-creditor matters; 15 or more years is preferred. - A portable bankruptcy and restructuring practice with approximately $1 million to $1.5 million in annual collections. - Substantial experience with both in-court bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court workouts and restructurings. - Corporate restructuring and debt-side advisory expertise, including experience advising investment funds on distressed portfolio companies. - Demonstrated ability to originate and manage client relationships, with an entrepreneurial interest in growing a practice. - J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in New York. - Ability to lead a practice, collaborate in a boutique firm environment, and maintain a stable professional history. Large law firm experience is preferred. - Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Base salary: $250,000 to $300,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available. The role offers a path to equity partnership. LOCATION Hybrid, based in New York, New York, with an expectation of being in the office approximately three days per week.
