Senior Bankruptcy Attorney

ABOUT THE ROLE A boutique law firm is seeking a senior bankruptcy attorney to lead and grow its bankruptcy and restructuring practice. The role combines an established portable practice with work advising investment funds on distressed portfolio companies. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Lead the bankruptcy and restructuring practice and oversee its continued development. - Advise investment funds on debt-side restructurings and workouts involving troubled portfolio companies. - Handle both in-court bankruptcy matters and out-of-court restructurings. - Work approximately 300 to 400 hours per year on firm-generated bankruptcy matters alongside your portable practice. - Mentor and direct a junior associate with bankruptcy experience. - Collaborate with attorneys serving existing firm clients and continue to develop your own client relationships. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - 10 to 25 years of experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, and debtor-creditor matters. - A J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in New York. - Substantial experience handling both in-court bankruptcy matters and out-of-court workouts and restructurings. - A portable bankruptcy and restructuring practice with approximately $1 million to $1.5 million in annual collections. - Experience advising investment funds on debt involving distressed portfolio companies. - A record of originating and managing client relationships, with an entrepreneurial interest in growing a practice. - Ability to lead a practice area, collaborate in a boutique firm environment, and maintain a stable professional history. - Big law experience is preferred. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Base salary is $250,000 to $300,000 annually, with additional compensation upside. Visa sponsorship is not available. LOCATION Hybrid, based in New York, New York, with an expectation of coming to the office approximately three days per week.
