We're looking for an Embedded Systems Engineer to join our Optronics team in Granada, Spain.
Our Technology:
Safran is a global leader in optronics, delivering advanced electro-optical systems for defense, aerospace, and security. Our cutting-edge multispectral imaging portfolio includes infrared and visible spectrum sensors integrated into airborne, naval, and land platforms for surveillance, reconnaissance, targeting, and navigation. Armed forces worldwide trust Safran’s optronic solutions for their reliability, performance, and technological superiority.
We’re also a world leader in Resilient Positioning, Navigation and Timing (R-PNT), improving the reliability, performance and safety of critical applications and high-risk operations, even in GPS/GNSS denied environments. We provide virtually fail-safe GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) and PNT (Positioning, Navigation and Timing) solutions for military and commercial applications worldwide.
Our industry-leading solutions combine ultra-accurate synchronization (sub-ns) and frequency distribution services. Built on enhanced White Rabbit PTP (Precision Time Protocol) synchronization technology, they deliver a range of products and technical solutions for applications ranging from timing distribution in financial networks to robust and reliable positioning.
We also specialize in control systems and diagnostics for particle accelerators and scientific facilities, providing innovative, dependable solutions with timing at their core.
The Position:
We are looking for an Embedded Systems Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and maintain embedded Linux solutions for Qualcomm QCS/QCM platforms. The role spans the software lifecycle: platform configuration, hardware integration, validation, performance optimization, troubleshooting, documentation, and product release support.
In the Optronics team, you will develop compact, battery-powered products combining cameras, sensors, navigation data, communications, and intelligent processing. You will integrate the embedded Linux platform, support hardware bring-up, ensure reliable component interaction, and deliver robust software for demanding field environments.
You bring solid embedded Linux development experience and understand hardware-constrained products. Your expertise spans system software, device integration, multimedia and sensor interfaces, performance and power optimization, diagnostics, and validation, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to turn operational needs into reliable, maintainable solutions.
What you’ll be doing:
Bring up, configure, and maintain Qualcomm Linux BSPs with Yocto and Debian-based distributions for prototypes and production.
Integrate and debug bootloaders, kernels, device trees, firmware, BSPs, and low-level services on Qualcomm SoCs.
Bring up camera sensors and drivers: power sequencing, clocks, GPIOs, I²C, MIPI CSI-2, media-controller topology, and stream validation.
Develop and troubleshoot secure and normal boot, partitioning, EDL flashing, factory provisioning, field updates, rollback, and recovery.
Optimize power, thermals, and boot time using suspend/resume, runtime power management, DVFS, and peripheral power states.
Integrate video, IMU, GNSS, communications, storage, and other product peripherals.
Create reproducible images, recipes, layers, deployment procedures, diagnostics, and automated builds and tests.
Debug hardware/software using logs, traces, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power measurements, and Qualcomm tools.
Collaborate with hardware, AI, applications, systems, cybersecurity, verification, and product teams on interfaces and integration risks.
Produce clear technical documentation; contribute to code reviews, releases, verification evidence, and continuous improvement.
What you Bring to Safran:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronic, Telecommunications, or Software Engineering, or equivalent.
At least three years developing and integrating embedded Linux on ARM-based SoCs.
Hands-on Qualcomm Linux BSP experience and Yocto and/or Debian build, packaging, and deployment skills.
Strong Linux boot-chain knowledge: bootloaders, kernel configuration, device trees, drivers, filesystems, partitioning, and services.
Board/peripheral bring-up and debugging of I²C, SPI, UART, USB, PCIe, GPIO, and MIPI CSI-2.
Experience with camera sensors, Linux camera drivers, V4L2/media-controller frameworks, and video debugging.
EDL flashing, recovery, software updates, and non-booting platform diagnosis.
Embedded power-management knowledge: suspend/resume, DVFS, runtime power management, thermal behavior, and power measurement.
Proficiency in C/C++, Python, shell scripting, Device Tree Source (DTS), CMake/Make, BitBake, Git, and hardware/software debugging; Rust or Lua desirable.
Analytical, communication, and coordination skills; autonomy, initiative, attention to detail, and professional English.
Desirable skills.
The company will positively consider knowledge and experience in:
Qualcomm QCS/QCM, Qualcomm Linux distributions, upstream-first BSPs, and meta-qcom layers.
Yocto layers/recipes, Debian packaging, CI/CD, reproducible builds, and software bills of materials.
Qualcomm platform tools and subsystems: U-Boot/UEFI, fastboot, EDL, firehose programmers, remote processors, firmware loading, and crash-dump analysis.
Camera image signal processors, MIPI CSI-2, V4L2, GStreamer, multimedia acceleration, and multi-camera/low-latency video.
Battery-powered products, battery management systems, hot-swap, power profiling, thermal optimization, and extended runtime.
GNSS, IMU, wireless communications, cybersecurity, secure boot, signed updates, Trusted Execution Environments, or embedded AI accelerators.
Defense, aerospace, optronics, wearables, or rugged, high-reliability products.
The keys of our offer:
Be part of a leading and expanding company.
Health insurance.
Flexible work schedule.
International and dynamic environment in Granada, Spain.
High possibilities to grow inside the company.
Professional Career Plan.
