Weld Mill Reliability Technician
Role Purpose / Mission
The Weld Mill Reliability Maintenance Technician is responsible for improving the safety, reliability, yield, runtime, and output of the weld mill by maintaining equipment to a high standard and eliminating recurring equipment problems. This role works closely with equipment operators to identify losses, troubleshoot issues, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, improve equipment condition, and implement lasting solutions that reduce downtime and improve production performance.
The technician is expected to take ownership of the overall condition of the assigned equipment, including troubleshooting, inspection, adjustment, repair, organization, and continuous improvement. The role also supports Production by assisting operators with equipment operation, troubleshooting process and equipment issues, training operators on proper equipment operation and care, and operating production equipment when necessary to support mill performance.
Position Details
Compensation Range: $32.05/hr. - $36.30hr.
Schedule: Sunday - Wednesday OR Wednesday - Sunday
Shift: 6am to 6pm
Key Responsibilities
- Own the condition and reliability of Weld Mill equipment by proactively identifying deficiencies, completing repairs, and developing long-term solutions that improve equipment uptime and prevent recurring failures.
- Serve as the first line of maintenance response for unplanned Weld Mill downtime. Diagnose failures, restore equipment safely and efficiently, and engage additional Maintenance, Engineering, Controls, or vendor support when required.
- Collaborate and communicate with the Weld Mill Production team to understand the production schedule and identify opportunities to complete planned maintenance and repairs with minimal impact to production.
- Plan maintenance and repairs around available equipment downtime, with required parts, tools, materials, and job plans staged in advance whenever practical.
- Verify equipment condition and proper operation following maintenance or repair work before returning equipment to Production.
- Maintain an organized work area for the inspection, repair, rebuild, and upkeep of critical Weld Mill components, including bead shear assemblies, high-pressure pumps, end welder MIG leads, and other repairable components.
- Develop a strong understanding of Weld Mill operation, process flow, and equipment function to improve troubleshooting effectiveness and repair quality.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of critical Weld Mill spare parts. Identify missing, incorrect, or obsolete part information and ensure appropriate spare parts are accurately documented and added to equipment BOMs in SAP.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on Weld Mill equipment in accordance with established maintenance strategies and equipment condition.
- Conduct routine equipment health inspections to identify developing failures, equipment deficiencies, repair needs, and required parts before conditions result in unplanned downtime.
- Review Weld Mill PMs for effectiveness and accuracy. Recommend and submit updates to Maintenance and Production PMs based on equipment condition, failure history, observed deficiencies, and lessons learned from repairs.
- When needed, the Weld Mill Reliability Technician may be required to operate Weld Mill equipment during call-ins, emergencies, or other situations where an operator is unavailable. This is expected to be an infrequent responsibility but may be necessary to support mill operation.
- Troubleshoot recurring mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and equipment-control issues; identify root causes and implement corrective actions that reduce repeat failures.
- Develop and maintain hydraulic system documentation, including system maps, component identification, and parts lists for Weld Mill hydraulic systems.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety, quality and environmental standards.
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to operators and maintenance personnel on proper equipment operation, equipment care, troubleshooting, inspection, and reliability best practices.
