Ghost jobs: what Jobrona's removal data shows

A ghost job is a posting that stays up although nobody is hiring for it. Jobrona cannot see why an employer keeps a posting, so this page does not name ghost jobs.

What it can show is what happens to postings it reads every day: how long the removed ones were open and how old the live ones are.

Updated 26 October 2026.

What Jobrona does about old and closed postings

It checks the boards it reads every day. A posting that closes drops out of the index, and the page of a closed job says it is closed. Duplicates and fake jobs are removed too.

Each job shows the date it was posted and a link to the employer's original posting.

How to check a posting yourself

  • Look at the posted date. An old date is a reason to ask, not proof.
  • Open the employer's own career page and see if the job is still listed there.
  • Look for the same job posted again with a new date.
  • Where Jobrona has enough applications, the job page shows how many applications the employer replies to.

What the index shows

  • 28,418 postings closed in the last 30 days. The middle one had been open 25 days. 18% closed within 7 days of being posted.
  • 502,478 postings are live now. 40% were posted more than 60 days ago and 31% more than 90 days ago. The middle live posting is 37 days old.

Counted from the Jobrona index of public jobs, checked 28 October 2026. A posting that is old may still be open for a real hire.

Questions and answers

What do people say about ghost jobs on Reddit?

Posts there describe postings that stay open for months with no reply. We cannot see an employer's intent, so we do not judge those posts. The numbers on this page are from Jobrona's own index.

How do I spot a ghost job?

No sign is proof. Check how old the posting is, whether the company's own career page lists it, and whether the same job was posted again.
